Christmas party outfits for curvy women can be tricky because so many festive pieces look great on the hanger but feel completely different once you put them on.
Sequins can add volume in the wrong place, some satin skirts cling more than you expect, and even a beautiful dress can feel off if the waist or neckline sits in the wrong spot.
One thing you will notice in most of these outfits is that I am not trying to make every piece festive. A sequin skirt, velvet dress, red sweater, or sparkly pair of pants can do enough on its own. Once you have that piece, the rest of the outfit can stay much simpler.
So in this article, I want to focus on outfits that actually work on a curvier figure. Some are dressier, some are better for a work Christmas party, and others are simple enough for dinner or a more casual gathering.
I’ll also show you how I would adjust each look depending on where you want more room or a little more shape.
What Makes a Christmas Party Outfit Work on a Curvy Figure?
For me, a good Christmas party outfit on a curvy figure starts with fit, not with whether the piece is festive enough.
You can wear sequins, velvet, satin, a fitted dress, wide-leg pants, or a statement skirt.
The part that matters is where the outfit sits on your body. If a dress pulls across the bust, a skirt cuts into your stomach when you sit down, or a top keeps riding up, you will notice it all evening.
I usually look at the fullest part of the body first. If you carry more through the tummy, you may feel better in a dress that skims rather than hugs straight across the middle, or in high-rise pants with a top that does not stop at the widest part of your stomach.
If your hips and thighs need more room, fit them first and then adjust the waist if needed. Trying to squeeze into the smaller size just because it fits your waist rarely makes the whole outfit look better.
Fabric matters too, especially with plus-size Christmas party outfits.
Satin can be beautiful, but very thin satin tends to show every line underneath. A slightly heavier satin skirt usually falls more smoothly.
Velvet is often easier because it has more structure, while sequins can work almost anywhere if the shape underneath is simple.
Waist definition can help, but it does not mean every curvy woman needs a tight belt or a fitted dress. Sometimes a wrap shape, a shorter jacket, a half-tucked top, or simply choosing the right top length is enough to give the outfit shape.
And always test the outfit sitting down. Christmas parties usually mean dinner, drinks, or several hours of sitting and standing. A plus-size holiday party outfit can look perfect in front of the mirror and still be uncomfortable ten minutes later if the waistband rolls, the skirt rides up, or the neckline needs constant adjusting.
Which Christmas Party Outfit Should You Try?
If this is a work Christmas party, I would start with the sequin skirt, green velvet dress, or sequin pants. For a casual family party, look at the holiday sweater outfits first. The red velvet dress, sparkly dress, and jumpsuit make more sense when the invitation feels dressier.
Red Sweater Dress Over a White Shirt
I like this outfit because it gives you another way to wear a red Christmas dress without making the whole look feel overly dressy.
The white shirt underneath adds contrast and makes the red stand out even more. It also gives you a little extra coverage around the arms and neckline, which can be useful if the sweater dress on its own feels too plain or too open.
Pay attention to the shirt underneath. I would look for a lightweight cotton or poplin style that sits smoothly under the dress. A thick oversized shirt can bunch around the waist and hips when all you really need is the collar and hem to show.
The same goes for the dress. It does not have to cling to your body, but I would look for one that still has some shape through the shoulders and waist instead of going completely straight from top to bottom.
This is one of the easier casual Christmas party outfits for curvy women because you can change the mood with the shoes. Try boots for a relaxed party, or add a dressier shoe and earrings if you want it to look more polished.
And you do not need many Christmas accessories here. The red already does most of the work.

2. Sequin Skirt With a Beautiful Blouse
A sequin skirt is probably one of the easiest pieces to build a holiday party outfit around.
You already have the festive part of the outfit, so everything else can stay much simpler.
For a plus-size Christmas work party outfit, I would pair the skirt with a soft blouse or a simple top rather than adding more sparkle on top. It still looks special, but you are not walking into the office Christmas party covered in sequins from head to toe.
If you carry more around your tummy, look at where the waistband sits and whether it stays comfortable when you sit down. A skirt that skims over the stomach and hips usually feels easier than one that pulls tightly across them.
With a fuller sequin skirt, I would keep the blouse a little cleaner through the body. With a straighter skirt, you have more room to play with a softer or slightly looser top.
Black is the easiest top to pair with sequins, but I also like cream with gold, champagne, or bronze. With silver sequins, I would usually go for black, navy, or a cooler white.
If you already have a sequin skirt in your closet, I would start there before buying an entirely new Christmas outfit.
This is also why I like having one festive piece in a Christmas capsule wardrobe. You can change the top and shoes and wear the same skirt to more than one holiday event.

3. Red Velvet Dress
A red velvet dress already gives you most of the Christmas look, so I would not overcomplicate the styling.
The original dress in this look also has a bow detail, which makes it even more special. You do not need to find that exact dress, though. The idea works with a plain red velvet dress too.
For a curvier figure, I would pay attention to where the waist sits. A seam or tie that lands around your natural waist can give the dress shape without making it feel tight through the stomach.
If you have a fuller bust, check the neckline and chest area from the side as well as the front. A dress can look like it fits when you are standing still but pull across the bust once you move your arms.
If this is usually the hardest part of finding dresses for you, I have a separate guide on dressing a fuller bust with more tips on necklines, fit, and proportions.
With a statement red Christmas party dress like this, I would keep the accessories fairly simple. You could add a small pair of earrings, a clutch, and either a neutral or metallic shoe.
I would not try to make every accessory red as well. Let the dress be the red piece.

4. Green Velvet Dress
I love green for Christmas when you want something festive but do not necessarily want to wear red.
Deep emerald or forest green looks especially good in velvet because the fabric gives the color more depth.
A green velvet dress can also work beautifully as a plus-size Christmas work party outfit because it feels seasonal without looking like a themed Christmas outfit.
When choosing the dress, look at the shape before the color.
If you like some waist definition, a wrap shape or a dress with gentle shaping through the middle can work really well. If you need more room through the stomach, you do not have to go straight for an oversized dress. A softly shaped dress that follows your body without clinging can be much more flattering.
If your tummy is usually the area that changes how a dress fits, I have more examples in my guide to dressing an hourglass shape with a tummy.
Length is completely up to you. If you love your legs, a shorter dress can look great. Midi velvet dresses are another good option if you want more coverage or need something for a slightly dressier Christmas party.
With emerald velvet, I especially like gold earrings and a simple black shoe. If the dress already has that rich color and texture, you really do not need a statement necklace, sparkly bag, and metallic heels all at once.

5. Holiday Sweater With a Long Coat
Not every Christmas party needs a cocktail dress.
If you are going somewhere more relaxed, a festive sweater under a good coat can be more than enough.
And by festive sweater, I do not necessarily mean a sweater covered in Christmas trees. It could be metallic, have a few sequins, include a little sparkle, or simply come in a beautiful holiday color.
A long coat over a sweater gives you a clean vertical line, which can look especially nice on a curvier figure. Just make sure the coat has enough room through the shoulders, upper arms, and bust so it does not pull when you button it.
If both the sweater and coat are oversized, though, the outfit can start to feel like a lot of fabric. I would usually let one of them be the relaxed piece. A roomier coat over a cleaner sweater, or a chunkier sweater under a straighter coat, is easier to balance.
Underneath, I would keep the bottom half fairly simple.
Depending on the party, you could wear tailored pants, black jeans, or even a skirt. If the sweater has a lot going on, the rest of the curvy holiday outfit does not need to compete with it.
This is also one of those outfits where your shoes and bag can decide whether it feels casual or dressy.

6. Christmas Sweater With Jeans
For a small office party, family gathering, or very casual Christmas get-together, jeans can absolutely work.
The key is making the outfit look intentional rather than like you happened to wear your Christmas sweater that day.
If the sweater has a busy print, I would keep the jeans simple. Dark wash, black, or a clean medium wash usually gives you enough contrast without adding another strong detail.
A sweater that finishes at the widest part of your stomach or hips can sometimes make the outfit feel boxier. Try another length, do a small front tuck, or choose a sweater with a more defined hem if you feel like the proportions are off.
A relaxed sweater can look great with straight-leg or slightly slimmer jeans. If you prefer wide-leg jeans, I would choose a sweater that does not have too much extra volume at the bottom.
Finish it with loafers, ankle boots, or a simple heel depending on the party.
This is also where I would change one everyday piece. Swap sneakers for a pointed ankle boot, add earrings you would not normally wear with jeans, or carry a smaller dressier bag. You do not have to change all three.
This is probably the easiest casual plus-size Christmas party outfit on the list, and you may already own almost everything you need.

7. Sparkly Dress
A sparkly dress is not something you need to stay away from just because you have curves.
If you love a fitted dress, wear one. I would look at how the fabric behaves around the tummy, hips, and bust rather than worrying about whether the dress is technically bodycon.
Some stretchy sequin dresses have enough structure to sit smoothly on the body. Others are very thin and show every seam underneath.
Also check the inside of the sleeves and underarms. Some sequin dresses look beautiful but feel scratchy after five minutes, especially where your arms rub against the sides of the dress.
Try moving in it.
Sit down. Lift your arms. Walk around for a minute.
And if you do not like a very fitted silhouette, you still have plenty of sparkly options. Look for a slightly straighter cut, a wrap-style dress, or something with more room through the middle.
A plus-size holiday party dress does not have to hide your body, but it also does not have to be tight everywhere to look good.
Since the dress already sparkles, accessories can stay simple. Clean shoes, earrings, and a small bag are usually enough.

8. Skirt With Ankle Boots
A sequin skirt with a black knit is an easy combination. A simple skirt with a metallic or sparkly blouse works too. Satin is another good choice if you want something festive without sequins.
For Christmas, I also like a burgundy skirt with a cream knit or a black skirt with an emerald or red top. They still feel festive without depending on sequins.
For a curvy winter party outfit, I would spend a little time getting the skirt length and boot height right.
If the skirt finishes very close to the top of the ankle boot, the small gap between them can sometimes make the outfit look awkward. Try a slightly shorter skirt, a longer midi, or a different boot height and see which proportion you prefer.
If you want more shape at the waist, tuck the top fully or just at the front. If you carry more through the tummy and do not like tucking, choose a top that finishes cleanly rather than one with a lot of extra fabric around the hem.
Add a coat if you need one, but let the skirt and top decide the outfit first.

9. Sequin Pants With a Pretty Top
We have talked about sequins a lot, but I like this one because sequin pants give you a completely different option from the usual Christmas party dress.
Treat them almost like you would a pair of black evening pants. Keep the top relatively simple and let the pants be the fun part.
For plus-size sequin pants, I would look for a comfortable waistband first. Sequins are already a heavier fabric, so you do not want the waist digging in or rolling while you are sitting.
A straight or slightly wide leg can also work nicely because the fabric has space to fall rather than pulling tightly across the thighs.
On top, you could wear a blouse, soft knit, satin shirt, or even a simple black top.
If the pants are very sparkly, I would skip another heavily embellished piece.
This is one of my favorite options if you want a plus-size holiday party outfit with pants instead of a dress.

10. Sparkly Jumpsuit
And finally, a jumpsuit.
A sparkly jumpsuit gives you the drama of a party dress without actually wearing a dress, which makes it a fun option for a dressier Christmas event.
First, make sure there is enough length through the torso. If a jumpsuit is too short there, it can pull at the stomach and hips even when the actual size is correct.
And before you decide on a jumpsuit for a long party, make sure you are comfortable getting in and out of it on your own. It sounds obvious until you are dealing with a back zipper in a restaurant bathroom.
Then look at the waist.
You do not need a very tight waist, but some definition usually helps keep a sparkly jumpsuit from looking like one large block of fabric. A tie, seam, wrap front, or slightly shaped waist can be enough.
If you have a fuller bust, check the neckline before buying. Wrap and V-neck styles can be beautiful, but make sure you are comfortable with how low they sit once you start moving.
Wide-leg jumpsuits are another great option for curvy women because the wider bottom gives the outfit movement and can balance a fuller bust or midsection nicely.
I would keep everything else simple. The jumpsuit already gives you plenty of sparkle.
Add a good shoe, one or two accessories, and you are ready for the party.

Final Thoughts
You do not need a completely different wardrobe for every Christmas event.
A sequin skirt can work with a blouse for a work party and a sweater for dinner. The same velvet dress can look completely different when you change the shoes and accessories. Even a Christmas sweater and jeans can work when the party is casual.
Start with the kind of party you are going to and pick one piece that makes the outfit feel festive. It may be the velvet dress, the sequin skirt, or just a Christmas sweater you already own. Once that piece is decided, everything else gets much easier.
